<HTML>I beg to differ from Phil's statement above: Ballard came to the conclusion that the massive detonation which blew out the side, thus allowing for an exceedingly fast sinking, was due to cold water rushing into #1 boiler room & causing the explosion of the boiler therein. He, or someone on his behalf, conducted tests on the feasibility of causing an explosion in the coal bunkers & the conclusion was it was not tha case.
