Identification of a wreck

<HTML>Dear All

I'm completely new to U-boats and this forum so please be patient!

I'm researching the wreck of a WW1 submarine off the south-east coast of Scotland. Divers found it in the '70s and identified it as possibly the U77, U75 or U78 - I'm not sure why they thought it might be these vessels in particular but the consensus seems to be a UC class submarine.

My research so far indicates it is unlikely to be the U75, which is reliably reported as sinking off Flamborough Head, some 200 miles south. According to Messimer's book "Verschollen" the U77 and U78 were reported lost in the Dover Straits.

The wreck is upright and intact with the deck gun, conning tower and bows clear of the seabed. The stern is buried.

Can anyone give me any ideas on where to go from here? I have the manufacturers name for the 88mm gun - Krupps and a number 1710. I've tried the RN Submarine Museum, internet seaches and the Deutches Museum OPAC,

many thanks

Alison
