<HTML>Messimer dates the loss of the U-77 as July 1918, on a mine-laying mission to the Nab Lightship referencing his source as Spindler "Der Handelskrieg nut U-Booten", other sources - as you say list it as lost on a minelaying mission to Kinnaird Head in 1916 but I don’t know what their primary sources are.
The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Scotland refer to it as the U-77 (possibly), but also consider the U-75 and U78
In the face of the conflicting reports I'd like to establish if there is any way of identifying the wreck from the external appearance. Local divers certainly refer to the wreck as the U-77
