Neil,

Parts of what you have are correct. EVELEEN was a 489 grt cargo steamer built in 1891 by Workman, Clark & Co., Ltd., Belfast for J. Milligen, Belfast (from 1897 on owner listed as J. Milligen & Co., Ltd., Belfast). She's a missing vessel; EVELEEN sailed from Ayr, on May 6, 1918, for Belfast with a cargo of coal but never arrived.

The sinking of EVELEEN is unattributed in the official German history of U-boat operations against merchant shipping by Admiral Arno Spindler. Spindler is, of course, not 100 percent accurate. A few people on this board are working through the missing ships using U-boat war diaries but I'm not aware of anyone finding a matching sinking claim.

The weather at time looks to be a weak low in the area, so taht would seem an unlikely cause for the ship's disappearance.
