Wow, thank you two, I'm amazed at the speed of the replies.
Michael, I'll follow up on the details of U151.
Ron, many thanks for the details of the crew -was that the 'official' list aside from those being part of the Q ship's 'secret'naval complement? According to Tony Brigland in 'Sea Killers in Disguise'the total crew was 11 officers and 88 men of whom 4 officers and 40 ratings perished either in the attack or on rafts at sea afterwards. How accurate that is I have no idea, but the listing of commendations for the action on 17th Sept against the U151 is:
Maurice B R Blackwood, Cmdr RN DSO
Nicholas F Smiles, Lieut RNR DSC
'Due to good organisation and disguising the ship, enemy came close to surface at close range'
Arthur J Booth, Act Lieut RNR DSC
William B McDonald, Engr Lieut RNR DSC (killed in the attack 18th Sept)
'Worked 6 pdr gun exposed to shrapnel fire for 35 minutes'
Samuel Baker Gnr (T.) RN DSC
'Due to his care and efficient supervision there were no unavoidable delays, misfires etc'
Thanks again for your interest and help,
Regards,
Keith.
