Hi, Daniel, thanks a lot for your trouble; I should have thought to give his D.o.b. - it was 01 Jan 1898. Skye had lots of Macinnes's, many of whom went to sea - the fleet of tug boats on the Clyde was known as the Skye Navy!
Meantime, I'm still trying to get info from surviving (distant) relatives in Australia.
Hope this might lift the fog a little!
