O.k., I got it now, should have found it earlier:
Convoy H.C. 8 left Halifax, N.S., on July 4th, 6 p.m.
Escorted by cruiser HMS DEVONSHIRE the Convoy consisted of the ships DELTA (!), CITY OF CALCUTTA, DEMOSTHENES, OXFORDSHIRE, HORORATA, RUNIC, PERSIC, VICTORIA, RHESUS, KEEMUN, PEMBROKESHIRE, VALACIA, CITY OF EXETER and TITAN.
CITY OF VIENNA ran ashore on the Black Rocks outside Halifax Harbour in dense fog.
July 13th the Destroyer Escort (6 US destroyers, 2 Sloops) was met. At 8 p.m. that day the destroyers dropped 8 depth-charges on the supposed position of an submarine.
--> I can't tell you which U-Boat that was or if there was any U-Boat there. As far as I can see from my documents there should be no U-Boat off the North Channel that day.
Liverpool was reached on July 15th at 6.45 a.m. !
