<HTML>Sorry RB but foul weather gear such as the sou'wester and other oilskin weather gear was issued to the boat and not the indidual crewmen . Other gear that belonged to the boat was binoculars and the dräger tauchretter escape gear . Foul weather gear had to be shared among the crew . Each man did have his own set of black or grey green heavy leather jacket and pants . For more info on this please see U-BOAT COMMANDERS AND CREWS 1935-45 by JAK P . MALLMAN SHOWELL page 21 . I am sure in the merchant navy you had your own set of foul weather cloths but not in the u-bootwaffe that was boat stores property handed out as needed ! When a man left a boat he did not take his oilskins or escape gear with him , his next boat would provide that for him .</HTML>
