Between Patrols

<HTML>Reading through the histories of the boats, it seems that there were rather long periods of times between patrols. I understand that a great amount of maintaence went into the boats during these periods and that some of the crew would be involved in this work. However, it appears that there would still be a great deal of time when there would be nothing for the crew to work on. The question is, what did the crew members do during these periods? Were they allowed to return home on leave? Just hang around? Have other duties etc.? Thanks in advance.</HTML>
