<HTML>Well, Batavia etc were part of Japanese held territory at the time of surrender. So in a sense they were in Japan when the surrender occured.
Ofd course, when it comes to who owns the property of the surrenduring power, since Japan surrendered to all of the allies (including the dutch) one could see a variety of cliamants.
Traditionally, the allied power whose military forces occupied the territory in question would have 'first dibs'. But since the subs were in dutch territory, you could see a legitimate dutch claim.
But, as Terry is reasearching, what really happens is that those with power and interest tend to hold sway.

what is the book you are researching? What is it about? when will you publish it?
Any pointers on how you get a book published?
I've dabbled with the thought from time to time.</HTML>
