But Mallmann didn´t identify which U-Boat was, and misconstrued her type.

The caption under the photo reads:

"Another Type VIIC (sic) with a similar set of free-flooding vents to the boat at the top of p.36.Although the big gun has been removed, the side of the hull can be seen curving around the platform where the gun used to be.The port side saddle tank is also clearly visible by the side of the conning tower in this and in the next picture."
