I have also heard this story from other historians. Some claim it was told to them by former U Boat Men. One in particular was from a gentleman that came to a reunion several years ago in North Carolina. I don't see why doubt something like this. Capt. Duffy was away from this country at the time, also this is not the first time he likes to discredit a story like this. I say there must be some credebility to this as it comes up in conversation many times over the years.
