<HTML>red light is used in the British army but they also tend to use "moonlight" which is a pale purple light similar to natruual moonlight. This has a beneficial effect that the light is more penetrating(being more of a mix than just red light) and that ,in the main,coloured lights do not suffer red distortion. In das boot(the Directors cut) imoonlight is shown during a torpedo attack(In the torpedo compartment) so i guess it was used by the U boats too. I feel red light would have given a glow projected upwards and that moonlight would have been used more whilst on the surface at night.</HTML>
