<HTML>We have gone over this many times on this forum, but I defend the actions of the USS Wahoo in the Buyo Maru incident, where survivors of a transport sinking were killed by the Wahoo crew.
>The ship was a military troop transport bringing troops to the war zone in the Solomons, and the sinking survivors were combat troops on their way to the battle front. If not killed, they would have survived to be picked up, and would have quickly been able to join enemy forces fighting the US in the Solomons.
>The survivors were continuing to fight after the sinking, firing on the Wahoo with small arms fire, including machine guns mounted on landing craft and other vessels floating about after the sinking. If you act like a combatant, expect to be treated like one.
I think killing armed enemy soldiers, near the battle front, while they are shooting back at you, is a legit act of war, even if the odds are unequally in your favor. War is not about being fair or 'sporting'.</HTML>
