<HTML>The pictures show that this U-boot is in training on the Baltic sea. This is indicated by the bands on the tower. They were Yellow indicating this to be a "Schul-boot" or learning boat. Since the conning tower shows also a meeling of a bull the boot will probably designated to an old crew that has lost there old U-boot. They took the emblem of the old boot with them to the new one.
I know this for a fact because when Karl Heinz Marbach, commander of U-953, went to Berlin to collect his Knightscross he left U-953 in La Pallice. After the D-Day landings La Rochelle was cut off and Marbach was given a new type XXI because he could not return to his old boot. With the better part of his old crew, wich was on leave when La Rochelle was cut off, he than started training on the Baltic sea with his new type XXI. He also had the old emblem of U-953 taken to the sail of his type XXI.
