Hi Mark,
War Diaries (KTBs) are in German. You order the KTBs for a specific boat and what you get is a roll of microfilm that contains all of the KTBs for that boat that they have. Normally this will be all KTBs since commissioning of the boat but that’s not always the case. The KTB for a patrol on which the boat was sunk is still on the boat so they don’t have it (they were turned in after each patrol). They may have a reconstructed KTB for that patrol though – reconstructed from the radio reports the boat made to U-boat Command on that patrol before they were sunk.
They don’t have all of the KTBs for all boats so your first inquiry should be to ask if they have the KTBs for the boat you are interested in and they will respond with the roll number and the cost.
Once you know what roll of microfilm contains the KTBs for the boat you are interested in you specify the roll number in your order. The roll usually includes the KTBs from a few other boats as well.
See: [www.ubootwaffe.net] (US Sources) for more information.
They recently raised their prices and I am not certain what they are now. When you get their response you can decide then if you actually want to order the microfilm.

Ken Dunn
