Hi all
Just a tip concerning reading microfilms.
I use an Epson Perfection 3200 Photo flatbed scanner to read them. It has a separate lamp in the lid for scanning film. It's of course not as fast as a proper microfilm reader, but it works. I suppose most modern flatbed scanners that also have a film scanning feature would work.
There were three different film holders bundled with the scanner when I bought it three years ago. One of them is for intermediate and larger formats. The samlles window in this is about 83x57mm large, which I use for the microfilms.
There is a clips system to hold the film in this holder. On this I have glued some small microfiber sheets (lens cleaning type). When I drag the film through this for scanning, it's both held in place and cleaned from dust as well.
Since there is a series of boats on each film, I navigate to the one I'm interested in by taking quick low resolution scans. (You can see with the naked eye, where a new KTB starts).
I then take high resolution scans of each page and stores them. I also print out a paper copy of each page for quick reference later.
