Ken, with all due respect, just because nothing has been uncovered doesn't mean it didn't happen or wont be in the future. They thought the world was flat for a very long time because they simply had no proof on the contrary, this didn't make the world flat. What I am saying is there are many variables involved to simply dismiss this as a mere myth. For example, how do we know boats which did dock in Irish ports weren't subsequently sunk along with the patrol reports? How do we know the Kaleun didn't specifically leave it out of the patrol report because of the political implications?
With a war such as the Second World War it's hard to have any certanties because of the pen-and-paper aspect of that era. Everything was stored on paper and falling bombs and war in general are it's worse enemy.
What I'm saying is we can't be sure. If I'd had to bet I would put my money on it never having happened, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it positively never happened.
We've already read from two people who were actively in the war and around that area on ships who suspected U-Boats were putting into Irish docks. That's called a "shadow of a doubt" in my books.
Regards
