Good evening, Gerhard,
I understood from your previous messages that you were new in this forum. In connection with your post, and unless you've already done it, may I suggest that you visit the 3 following threads : 1 in "General Discussions", called " Lothar-Gunther Buchheim died", the 2 others in "Movies & Films", called "Der Alte's character"and "Thomsen's character".I'm sure you'll find interesting informations. As for physical resemblances,it is believed that Petersen, when he made "Das Boot" as a film, has selected actors looking like their physical descriptions in LGB book, with the exception of Der Alte, Prochnow, who made an exceptional performance, has no physical similarity with HLW, which is obvious when you see a photo of real U-96 CO.But, apart from IWO, I don't know if pictures of real LI and IIWO exist...
To finish, keep in mind that LGB himself decribed his book as a novel, and not a KTB/War Diary.
Cheers.
Jean-Noël
