Thank you so much for this information.
U353 was commissioned on the 31st of March 1942 so based on the information you have provided - this would date the photo to be sometime in early April 1942?
Does the Högel book give any further details as to the colour, dimenstions etc of this insignia? Does this book have any information regarding any other emblems etc for U353? I am debating whether it might be one to get.
Here is another photograph of U353 still in the dry dock. You can just make out the UAK-Zeichen on the conning tower - this time on the starboard side of the boat .
