Hi there Bruce,

Thank you for your response.

On checking my notes I find that I last spoke to the retired police officer over four years ago, but his memory was clear at that time.

An eye-witness to a U-boat landing would surely defeat the object of clandestine operations? The only persons present on the far reaches of Cape Wrath were the occasional shepherds. An uninhabited Cape Wrath was therefore an attractive location for clandestine operations. An enemy aircraft overhead would attract far more attention than a submerged U-boat, and U-boats did operate in the North Channel and did achieve successful sinkings.

I gather that my source is now not in the best of health, but if an opportunity presents itself I will certainly follow up the question.
