Hi there Ken,

Thank you again for your very comprehensive and closely argued response. Everything you say is valid. I suppose it all points up the very different times and experiences that war brings forth.

Thank you also for your confirmation from the book index of the absence of a mention of the locality.

The vast majority of Cape Wrath was then unoccupied. The only persons present on the isolated far reaches would be the occasional shepherds. Its very isolation was its attraction as a place for clandestine operations; a swift landing by a U-boat would have a greater chance of success than an aircraft operation landing agents by parachute, which would surely be immediately obvious to a greater number of local residents and service personnel. Members of all three services were stationed in Durness in significant numbers (Cape Wrath is within the Durness parish) during the war years.

Cape Wrath is nowadays wholly unoccupied. The isolated far north-west even now sometimes attracts clandestine drug drops by rapid inflatables. And these days the whole of the coast is under constant electronic scrutiny.

The possibility of clandestine U-boat landings at the extremity of Cape Wrath is an interesting proposition and I am extremely grateful for your contribution.

If anything of relevance does emerge then I will post with an update.

Many thanks again.
