Hi Jan,
I meant to get back to you yesterday to thank you for your extremely helpful advice but I was in Dublin for most of the day and did not get back until late. I actually managed to get a very efficient travel agent here in Cork and he has recommended, and, he has booked a hotel for us in Hamburg between the 22nd and the 26th of March. I had planned to perhaps spend one night in Kiel but in hindsight as my Dad is 73 years old it would probably be more convenient to stay at the one hotel rather "upping ship" and spending the night in place to place. The hotel in Hamburg which I am booked into is the Arcadia Belmondo which the travel agent tells me is only 800 meters from the train station, that it is has a four star rating and, I presume it it will be decent enough for the trip.
I have to say that everybody on this forum has been extremely kind and helpful. I originally e-mailed Gudmundur asking him for information and he recommended that I try the forum, and he was entirely correct people have been thoughtful, considerate and generous in giving their time and experience and thank you very much for that.
The only last question is: does anyone know of any decent restaurants in Hamburg?!
Best regards,
John Devlin
