Hello Everybody,

if I remember correctly, anybody wanting to join the Armed Forces in Germany in 1933 and at least until the start of the war had to renounce any membership of any party, even the NSDAP; so were the rules, especially for the navy.

Furthermore it is a political as well a historical fact, that young men after 1933 being critical of the Nazi-regime "fled"e.g. into the navy in order to not be bothered anymore by the NSDAP.

And please let us remember that in 1939 the lords had to join the armed conflict on sea because the UK and France declared war on Germany and not vice versa. At least that is the way a commander was thinking when he got his boat into action in f.e. December 1939.

On behave of my godfather he asked me to write on this subject to Altenbruch, Herr Bredow, who again asked me to publish this letter in this forum.

I`ll add in just a second, although it is in German.
