Thank you for the info on the pictures of the MV Kiamata. It is interesting that the damage shows the flattening of the bow plates,

I forgot to mention that my dad said that they crashed into and steamed over the top of the uboat.

So the damage on the bow could be the imprint of the conning tower.

Repair were done in Halifax then the Kiamata sailed to New Jersey and a new bow was installed.
