From the logbook of KAIMATA British National Archive BT381/1571
Sailed Manchester 12.00 18/Feb/1941
Arrived Liverpool 08.30 19/2/41
Sailed Liverpool 09.00 27/2/41
Arrived Halifax NS 16.43 10/Mar/1941
Sailed Halifax NS 09.00 18/3/41
Arrived New York City 12.00 28/3/41
Sailed New York City 03.30 13/April/1941

At 02.25 Approx Pos.46.31 N 43.58W KAIMATA was in collision with the Dutch Tanker
OCANA (1938 9062 DWT a sizable ship for the time) which caused substantial damage to KAIMATA's hull plates, her stem was also twisted and broken.

She was also reported in the daily casualty reports (BT347/1) 11/3/41 At Halifax NS In collision, extensive damage to bow plates and stem carrying a 3000 general cargo.

The narrative in the logbook was fastidiously kept and the were no mentions of sighting or action against a submarine. I would suggest therefor, that the newspaper cutting was a propaganda exercise.
