I have contacted the German Government and I have related part of my father's story about the sinking of U-47.

I have also contacted the New Zealand Shipping Company requesting a copy of the "Ship Log" for the month of March 1941 if it still exists. These pages should have the Lat/Long of the incident.

If all the information I have gathered is correct then the U-47 was sunk, if by accident by the M.V Kaimata on the evening of the 7th March 1941

The M.V Kaimata was probably named after a small town on the North Island of New Zealand and was built in 1931 and was paid off (scrapped) on the 5th May 1969
