British not keep tally of swept mines?

Hi.

Just watched the documentary about the wrecks of U-325, U-400, and U-1021 being discovered of the coast of Cornwall. These wrecks were unidentified until research was done to identify them and were not supposed to be where they were found.

If i remember the British laid a minefield in that area of the Cornish coast in 44. After the war this would have to have been swept clear. My question is that surely they'd have kept a tally of the amount of mines dropped versus mines swept and therefore when the tally was 3 short they'd have investigated and discovered the U-Boats then?
