Hi Dave

Please don't forget that there could be many other reasons why less mines were found when the field was swept clear some months or even years later. Especially heavy weather or strong tidal streams were a problem, causing anchored mines to break loose. Others possibly detonated due to malfunctions or when struck by flotsam.

And after the war they had other things to do than search for sunken enemy U-boats.

Best regards
Rainer
