HELLO I HAVE AN ORIGINAL WHITE TOP CAPTAINS HAT. IT HAS NO STIFFENER INSIDE BUT IT DOES HAVE A FELT INNER LINER THAT IS MADE TO ACT AS A STIFFENER. THE WHITE TOP FITS OVER THE FELT LINER AND DOES SOMEWHAT STAND UP. THIS IS MORE FOR THE FRONT EMBLEM AND METAL EAGLE TO BE SEEN. IF YOU GET A COPY OF THE BOOK KNIGHTS CROSS WINNERS OF THE KRIEGSMARINE YOU WILL SEE MANY PICTURES OF THE WHITE TOP HATS THAT SOMEWHAT LAY MORE FLAT LIKE YOU MENTIONED IN THE MOVIE. AGE DOES HAVE ITS TOLE ON THE HAT FOR DURABILITY. TJK
