Why no U boats in the Red Sea-Sharm El Sheikh?

<HTML>Japanese & German U boats sauntered around the Gulf of Aden for easy pickings. Why did they never cruise into the Red Sea like the Italians to directly intercept ships leaving the Suez Canal near Sharmel Sheikh at the tip of the Sinai Peninsular? Is the Red Sea suitable for sub operations?</HTML>
