I happened to have studied Japanese for 3 months and I can tell that it\'s true what Oliver says, although Ni-hon is just written Nihon (without \"-\") in romaji (written in our writing of how you pronounce the Japanese words).
That western people adapt Nihon to Nippon is not true, the Japanese also use that word! I saw that in the Japanese lesson book. They use bothm but they use Nihon much more. I hope I have said this right
