Hello,

Bakelite was developed by the Belgian engineer Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York in 1907, and patented on December 7, 1909.
I am surprised to read that divers have found some Bakelite floating on the water, because its density is 1.5, so it does not float on the surface !

Following my friend, Th. Termote, a Belgian expert in wrecks and underwater researchers in diving, who ID several subs (mostly from W.W.1) in the North Sea / Channel (Europe) he did it each time, by looking the propellers. The “serial number ” of the U-boot is carved in it. Such as, 2 years ago, he ID the … UB – 29 doing this way.

Best regards,
Freddy.
