<HTML>Hello Stan,
If you go back on this forum, you\'ll see another thread with the same question asked.
My opinion: It\'s dark, you\'ve been under attack from the destroyers for several hours, almost sunk, there is allways a possibility that one of them is still in the area with it\'s engines stoped, why risking a deck gun attack? You\'ll have to fire a few shots before hitting target, a part of your crew is on the fore deck manning the gun, in case of a surprize attack you can\'t crush dive \'cause your men are still on the deck, the illuminations of the gun firing in the night will draw the attention of any nearby destroyer, it\'s different to wach a tanker burning and not stoping to pick up survivors \'cause of the danger that your own vessel could be torpedoed by an U-Boat in the \"neighbourhood\", than watching a deck gun firing in the night. Anyway, this is my opinion.
Rgds, George </HTML>
