This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

<HTML> How can you say that? It's just anti-"Nazi" propoganda from Hollywood! The same stuff they've been spitting out since the forties! Most people in Hollywood don't seem to know anything about Germany or Germans during the 30's and 40's. It's all very much stereotypical. Das Boot shows the men who served as best they could in a terrible situation. It shows them as the heroes that they were and it also shows the horrors and wasteful nature of war. U-571 is a two dimensional look at nothing. Das Boot is a deep, thoughtful piece of artwork.
Of course the Americans only killed a few "Nazi" sailors in the film. That's the hollywood formula. Did you happen to see the reactions of the crew in Das Boot when they surfaced to find the crew still aboard? Let me ask- did U-96 slaughter innocent seamen, or did the English abandon them in their panic and hurry? It's a harsh truth of war. People die. The crew of U-96 were not the ones who delcared war. That's the point of Das Boot. To show people something they usually don't see. Germans... English.... Americans... They're all the same, just on different sides. They're just men.</HTML>
