<HTML>Dear Herr Kummrow, Dear Meg,
As it has been discussed, actually rehashed on many occasions, LGB is first and foremost an excellent reporter. The man can't invent something to save his own life, when he writes. He just likes to mix and match dates and events. When he reports the sound as of a throw of pebbles, you don't need his books, you need a physics book to clear the matter up: look up the Doppler effect; it works in the air and underwater. Also, when a destroyer actually located a u-boat, the ASDIC operator would increase the frequency so as not to lose his target. The film doesn't show this very well, but it is evident in SHII. The fact that LGB heard a throw of pebbles against the hull meant that the big bad destroyer a) had acquired them, b) it was too damned close for comfort.
Best Regards
Io Chrysafidou</HTML>
