<HTML>Dear Meg,
WHAT twelve patrols? There were only eight on U 96, and then the LI was transferred to become an instuctor and the Kommandant to become a Flottillenchef. The photos in question were, as you so very rightly pointed out, taken by Friedrich Grade.
As for the famed 7th patrol of U 96, it counted as double, because they touched harbour in Vigo, so the Kommandant ended the KTB with a summary of victuals and diesel and drinking water and torpedoes used, and began another in the same way. That is why in Die Festung LGB speaks of the 7th/8th patrol of U 96. It was the same journey, only with two separate KTBs. His next u-boat adventure was on U 309, in August 1944, as you very well know, where he also picked and matched dates and events to confuse us, poor benighted readers.
Kindest Regards
Io</HTML>
