untruths, misconceptions and U-571

<HTML>Hollywood and politics have really shrouded the truths of germany during the second world war haven't they? People are trained to shout "NAZI!" if germany or germans during WWII are mentioned. What's worse is that people make movies that perpetuate this and aren't even close to truth. How about our favourite film, U-571? I remember watching the dvd at a friends house. During a documentary about the filming of the movie, the costume designer said that the director was suprised by the clothing of the average u-boat crewman. Apparently he was expecting gleaming boots and stiff riding pants or whatnot! Men with rigid backs always shouting @#$%&. This proves something even more dissatifying... he director didn't know a thing about the subject. How about opening the torp. tubes at 200 meters or however deep it was. It just the same hollywood ballast, perpetuating the same myths and the same propaganda. Anyway, that's my opinion.</HTML>
