Hallo Wolfgang,
It must be hard for other people to believe this, but we Americans are often extremely critical of our country and especially of the blustering, macho face it presents abroad. Please do not believe that our official propaganda represents the thinking of all the American people!
Believe it or not, we tend to be kind-hearted and generous; only our current administration is cold and hostile.
There was a camp full of German prisoners of war near the town where I live, in Northern California. Many of the soldiers chose to return to this town after the war, and now their grandchildren are growing up there. Why would former prisoners choose to do such a thing? Because the local people were so kind to them. This sounds like a fairy story, and it may not have been true anywhere else, but it's true of Santa Rosa, California.
Every time I've visited your beautiful country, I've been met by polite, helpful people who made me feel welcome and were kind about my halting German! I hope that when you visit the USA, you will find people to be equally kind and polite.
Mit freundlichen Gruß,
Meg
