From some old notes I have from the Book U-boat Inteligence" Grant it has: U-12 War Pilot Volker POW escapes from a camp in England goes to Hull boards a Swedish Bark Ionstorp which is stopped by the U-16 which picks him up and takes in to Germany. He is later KIA on the U-44. Does anyone have any more info on this man and his escape ect.

On 25 May 1942 a Soviet PBY was caught on the water at Moller bay Novaya Zemalya and sunk by gunfire from a U-boat. Does anyone know which one? On the UB59 on 16 may 18 in was in drydock repairing mine damage at bruges when it was hit by a bomb or bombs possibly by 224 Sqn and was scuttled 5 oct 18 when the Germans evacuated the Flanders ports

I have some info on the following ships: the Merchant ship Suchan captured by the U48 on 6 Oct 16 had in its cargo 7 US FWD trucks source "American Military vehicles of WW I" The merchant ship Shirala sunk by the UB 57 on 2 july 18 was carrying 4 Jeffery Quad armored cars, a Russel-Knight scout cat and most of the spare parts of an armored car unit going to India. The 5 group RAF Fortnightly summery has air attacks on a U-boat by 217 squadron that claimed a sinking there were 2 large oil patches and a spar sighted 10 miles N of Dunkirk. I don't think one was sunk. Does anyone know which U-boat was attacked or which ones were in the area at this time? thanks in advance

The Osprey book "Q-ship Vs U-boat" by David Greenhill has the following: 15 mar 17 Q- Result combat with the UC45 in the Dogger Bank area This ship fought another action with a unknown U-boat on 4 Apr 17. The Result was a sailing vessel 20 jun 17 Q- Mary B Mitchell combat with the UC17 I hope this is of some use.

Recently i got hold of a partial copy of RNAS Communiques and have found some old notes I made from the book Wielding the Dagger here are some U-boats and ships damaged by the RNAS and RAF: 3/4 Sep 1917 UB54, A49 A39 S18 S54 Damaged air attack Brugges was bombed by HPs of 7N and 7A N and DH 4s of 5N 23 Sep 17 2 destroyers damaged 6N and 11 N bombed bruges 23/24 UB30 damaged aircraft HPs

The US City of Pensacola is mentioned in the book "Wooden Ships from Texas a WW I saga" Richard Bricker. The ship was in balast when sunk and all 11 of the crew survived. In looking through the book "War Cars" by David Fletcher on British armored cars in WW I Page 73 mentions that the cargo of the SS Shirala sunk on 2 july 1918 by the UB57 included 4 Canadian Russell armored cars based on US Jeffery Quad trucks a Russell-Knight Scout car and most of the units spare parts were part of the cargo and where lost when the ship was sunk. 16 other Russells did

In looking through the book "The Triumph of Unarmed Forces" On 1 march 1917 it mentions the Merchant ships Gurre sunk and Livingstone taken as a prize by a U-boat in looking at this site it was the U66. While stumbling along after I made this post I found the section U-boat patrols and have possible matches for the attacks: 30 jun 41 U371 12 Aug 41 U372 5 Oct 41 U566 and U563 If anyone has access to their KTBs they might want to check these dates out. I hope I am of some help

Was the Italian liner Rex ever stopped and boarded by a U-boat during the 1939-40 period during a trans Atlantic voyage? I don't think it was, but I am just double checking. The ship was taken off trans Atlantic service in spring of 1940.

I have some information on the Brazilian Merchant ship Taquari from Waeship International Magazine: On 2 January 1918 a German U-boat shelled the Taquari off Newquay, Cry Wall. The ship lowered her lifeboats and 8 men died. The ship was towed into cardiff. This is some other info from Latin American Wars Part 2 on Brazian Ships in WW I: On 8/9 December 1916 the merchant ship Rio Pardo was captured by German destroyers on the England to the Netherlands run. the Macau or Macao had her Captain taken prisoner when the ship was sunk by a U-boat the Rio Bravo is sometimes not listed as a Brazian war loss because the ship was leased to British Subjects
