Hi I was always under the impression that both periscopes in U-Boats were capable of raising and lowering. However I've just learned that only the Attack Scope in the Conning Tower had this feature whereas the Observation Scope in the Control Room was fixed. Is this correct?

Hi What is the outer hull/conning tower of a U-Boat made of compared to the pressure hull. I find U-Boat wrecks sometimes hard to make sense of as the conning tower as I knew it seems to have rusted away leaving the pressure hull. This is a much smaller tower and very unfamiliar looking. Are the conning tower and pressure hull made of the same substance, but the tower is made of such thin la

Hi I saw a documentary recently with U-676's wreck discovered in the Baltic and it's in remarkably good condition. I don't know if the Conning Tower Turm was unique to U-676, but it had an unusual metal bucket shield all around it and i believe was much heavily upgraded with Flak. Does anyone have any photo or more info of this conning tower design? Thanks

Hi There's a well know picture of the crew of U-69 returning from patrol all wearing Panama Hats. I believe this may have been recovered booty from a victim. Does anyone have any background info on this? Picture below. Thanks

Hi. Just watched the documentary about the wrecks of U-325, U-400, and U-1021 being discovered of the coast of Cornwall. These wrecks were unidentified until research was done to identify them and were not supposed to be where they were found. If i remember the British laid a minefield in that area of the Cornish coast in 44. After the war this would have to have been swept clear. My questio

Hi Philipp. The book says Topp became Nazi Party Member 2,621,078 in May 33 and by 1934 had joined the Allgemeine-SS. When his application as a naval officer was accepted in March 34 he had to drop active membership in both organizations due to his new status as a member of the armed forces. Thanx

Hi I am currently reading "Neither Sharks Nor Wolves" by Timothy Mulligan and it claims Erich Topp was in the Allgemeine-SS, albeit for a very short time. Does anyone have details of which unit and his final rank?? Thanx

Hi I am trying to find out the number of the U-Boat that was sunk in the Baltic during ww2(Not sure if during training or by enemy action) that was salvaged and recommissioned? I think the whole original crew were killed. Must have been quite horrible to be the 2nd crew with so many ghosts aboard. Thanx

Hi I am getting a model made of U-995. I am curious as to how the emblem or emblems were displayed during the war. In the current museum boat it just has the fang den hut emblem on the starboard front of the conning tower. There is nothing else. However in Hogels U-Boat Emblems it also shows the fang den hut men inside what looks like a globe. It also has the 13th flotilla emblem too. So wh
