Hello guys, Simon is right. The commander of the uboat at the time of the laying or seeding of the mine should be credited with the sinking and not the commander of the boat when the mine exploded. In this case it should be KptLt. Carl Bunte. There is another case with U80 and the British trawler Kirkland as pointed out by Simon S. on another forum. link [1914-1918.invisionzone.com] K

Michael, That answers the question of the location of the sinking, but does not identify the ship in question. Does the KTB or Steuermann Rath identify the ship and give the time of sinking? Respectfully, Joe

Hello Michael D., Very very nice catch. Lloyds War Losses does Not show Gleneden as Damaged at all. My guess is that it will join SATURNA in the category as a "Mystery Sinking". God bless, Joe

Hello Piet, I hope you still visit this forum. This is a very old thread, but just recently stumbled across an answer to Telesfora. Ex INCHBARRA, TELESFORA was sunk in a collision with EDOUARD SHAKI on 29th May 1917 off Havre. At time of loss she belonged to Larrinaga Line which makes her British. Hope you haven't lost too much sleep over this. Respectfully, Joe R

Hello MPC Agree 110%! These men should be included as commanders. Hello Simon, If I can be so bold, Submitting an article on the omitted officers would solve the problem. Therefore, the list would contain "all" commanders. Yes I know, easy for me to say. Your friend, Joe

348. Re: U53
Forgot to mention, All 5 fishing vessels are listed on this site: naviresdeguerre.free.fr It is not as exhaustive as uboat.net and there are a lot of omissions, hard to read, no attributions but they list the five f/vs that do not appear on this site. And as I mentioned 4 of 5 are listed in Lloyds as sunk. Joe

349. Re: U53
Hi Michael, Your answer was extremely enlightening and informative. Thank-you for taking the time. Ami de Dieu is listed as sunk in "Dictionnaire De La Flotte De Guerre Francaise De 1671 A Nos Jours". The ships starting with "A" can be viewed on-line. It's a pricey book (I'll wait for the paperback) but PERHAPS Yves can find a library that has it. Easy for me t

Hello Michael D., You are absolutely correct. I missed that one because its not listed in Lloyds, but IS listed in another source. The location for the 4 I listed is Bay of Biscay. Because I don't have any KTBs, we must have patience and wait for the answer. God bless, Joe

Hello again everyone, Did U58 sink the Norway bark NORMA or is this another mystery?? BTW Under successes of U58 the name of the ship sunk on 5 May '17 should be ASRA not AFRA built by Huygens and van Gelder, Amsterdam in 1897. Respectfully, Joe R

356. Re: U90
Under successes for U90, OberLt. Thomas Bieber is listed as commanding officer of U90 and sinking Spanish steamer VICTOR De CHAVARRI. He could hardly be doing that while commanding UB31 at the same time sinking the GREATHAM. But maybe he was that good. Respectfully, Joe R

HI again everyone, On 16 June 1918, Kpt/Lt Richard Feldt embarked on his first and last command in U156. He therefore can not be credited with sinking ATLAS, ARTESIA,CHARITON,NUZZA and ATLANTIDE. These ships were sunk in Jan. and Feb. 1918.These ships Were Sunk by Kpt/Lt Konrad Gansser commanding U156 on his SECOND war patrol in U156. Gansser's first patrol lasted from 16 Oct. to 28 Oct. 19

In the interest of having the most complete listing of ships sunk, damaged and captured the following is submitted. MENADO 3814/07 Bonn&Mees,Rotterdam was one of seven Dutch ships in a convoy. Listed as damaged by Lloyds on 22 Feb.'17, MENADO was stopped, boarded and explosive charges placed on board. Not all of the charges detonated and MENADO survived. The Uboat was U21 Kpt/Lt Hersi
