Hi Julie: I am in the process of planning a trip in November to see all of the U-Boat bunkers in France and Germany and have been in contact with the Office of Tourism in La Rochelle. The bunkers (U-Boat and Bunkered Lock) are actually in La Pallice just north and a little west of La Rochelle. Do you have Google Earth on your computer? If not, it is a free and safe download. Once downloade

I just heard from the Office of Tourism in St. Nazaire and accessing the Bunker and Bunkered Lock there will not be a problem, in fact the office Office of Tourism is located in the Bunker. Full access can be granted by the Communication Manager for the City of Saint Nazaire, Charles NICHOL, at NicholC@mairie-sai&

I have done considerable research in trying to gain inside access to the U-Boat Bunkers in France and Germany for my upcoming trip in November. Some of the Bunkers are open to the public, some are not. Anything is possible if you know the right people. Can anyone help me by providing me with contact information for anyone who could get me in the bunkers? Names, addresses, phone numbers websit

I have just completed Hitler's Uboat Bases and the author makes reference to "floating harbors." Can someone tell me what a floating harbor is? Most of these floating harbors have locks and I assume it has something to do with the locks. Any help appreciated! Kevin M. Pearson Wichita Falls, Texas

I collect sound effects from World War II - the sounds of train engines, radial aircraft engines, tank engines, machine guns/rifles, etc. Does anyone know if I can buy a CD that would have sounds from a U-Boat? The former curator of the U-505, Gill, made a sound recording when they fired up the engines a few years ago and I have already written to him. Thanks! Kevin M. Pearson Wichita Fall

Does anyone know of any good books on the construction of the submarine bunkers - a book that would show original plans, construction methods, labor involved, history of each bunker, etc. Thanks in advance for your help! Kevin M. Pearson Wichita Falls, Texas

I am no expert on U-Boats, but the Chief knows he will need every ounce of compressed air available to blow the tanks when repairs are made. Don't know how much compressed air it would take to fire off 18 topedos, but probably more than they were willing to risk, would be my guess. KM Pearson

Hi Gil: I collect sounds from World War II - radial engines, tank engines, Linerty ship engines, etc. How could I obtain your most unusual copy of the 505's deisels? I'd pay good money for a DVD! Kevin M. Pearson Wichita Falls, Texas

I was in Kiel in 1999 and went to Laboe. I took the train from Hamburg. I recommend first-class seating. From my motel in Kiel, I took a cab and it cost me something like $40 USD round trip. Today it would be much more. I did not know there was a water taxi that could take you there or I would have taken it. It you'd like to visit the site where the former sub pen Kilian was located, con

Thank you all for your answers to my original inquiry. Dennis: I have seen pictures of Fink at Hamburg on the u-boat website and there didn't appear to be much left to see there. Is there more to see than just the lower part of the bunkers. It looked to me like the tops of the buildings had been demolished and removed. Seeing the U-Boats would be very interesting! I plan to visit France and Germany in September 2008 specifically to visit the U-Boat pens at Brest, Lorient, St. Nazaire, La Rochelle, and Bordeaux. I also plan to visit the Valentin bunker north of Bremen near Farge. Can anyone help me with contact information of people who could help get me into these bunkers? I know some of the bunkers are used by the French Navy and I need to know who to
