This is a memorial to the US boats Darter and Dace that were involved in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Capt. David McClintock, skipper of the Darter, resided in Marquette and before his death the City honored him with a memorial. The museum next to the memorial has a small display about the battle and the action of the two subs.
