History | During the passage to the UK with convoy SC-122 Campobello suffered from severe leaks and as a result of these she had to be abandoned. The ship was beyond salvage and her crew (35 men) was taken off by the corvette HMS Godetia. Godetia finally sank Campobello with a shallow set depth charge. Campobello had suffered some hull damage during an earlier encounter with ice while in Gulf of St. Lawrence in late 1942. She developed severe leaks during the bad weather while on passage to the UK. |
