HMS Eagle (Capt. E.G.N. Rushbrooke, DSC, RN) conducted flying exercises off Freetown during which she was escorted by HMS Mignonette (Lt. H.H. Brown, RNR). (6)

Around 1200N/5, the aircraft carrier HMS Eagle (Capt. E.G.N. Rushbrooke, DSC, RN) and heavy cruiser HMS Dorsetshire (Capt. A.W.S. Agar, VC, DSO, RN) made rendezvous in position 07°16'N, 27°00'W, with the RFA oiler Echodale (8150 GRT, built 1941) and her escort the corvette HMS Calendula (Lt.Cdr. A.D. Bruford, RNVR).
HMS Eagle then attempted to fuel from the oiler but all attempts failed.
Attempts continued for the next few days and by 8 September HMS Eagle had finally been successfully refueled.
HMS Dorsetshire was refuelled on the 9th and the 10th after which the oiler and the corvette parted company. (7)

They were escorted by the destroyers HMS Foresight (Cdr. J.S.C. Salter, RN) HMS Forester (Lt.Cdr. E.B. Tancock, DSC and Bar, RN), HMS Fury (Lt.Cdr. T.C. Robinson, RN), HMS Sikh (Cdr. G.H. Stokes, DSC, RN), HMS Zulu (Cdr. H.R. Graham, DSO, DSC, RN), HMS Vidette (Lt.Cdr. E.N. Walmsley, RN) and the escort destroyer HMS Lamerton (Lt.Cdr. H.C. Simms, RN).
Around 1140A/21, HMS Vidette parted company.
Around 1400A/21, HMS Lamerton parted company.
Around 1725A/24 - 1735A/24, HMS Sikh and HMS Zulu were detached while HMS Harvester (Lt.Cdr. M. Thornton, DSC, RN) and HMS Havelock (Cdr. E.H. Thomas, DSC, RN) joined.
They all arrived at Greenock around 1130A/26. (9)
