Career information
Commodore Trevor Montagu Williams served in the Royal Navy Reserve during WWII. He was involved in the rescue of troops at Dunkirk Involved in mine disposal in Libya - Made an honorary 'RAT OF TOBROOK' Post war he captained various ships and finished his career as captain of the ''Çity of Durban'' ( Ellerman Lines)a first class only ship sailing between UK & South Africa. A heavy smoker, he had a lung removed, retired early to his house on the Wentworth Golf Club Estate Surrey and died aged 90.
HMS Montagu was a Duncan class Battleship built in 1901 in Devonport and somehow managed to run aground on Lundy Island on 30th May 1906. How it did this is anybody's guess as Lundy is at the entrance to the Bristol Channel with miles of water all round it and the centre is 142 metres high. How anyone could hit that so hard that there was no chance of getting her off goodness knows. However his father, Capt.Hugh Williams, had a lot to do with the salvage and by good, or bad, luck he got the name from the ship (information on HMS Montagu at wikipedia.org).
