| Notes on event | At 03.12 hours on 21 September 1940 the Invershannon (Master William Richardson Forsyth) in convoy HX-72 was torpedoed by U-99 about 480 miles west of Bloody Foreland. The tanker was sunk by a coup de grâce at 11.42 hours. 15 crew members and one gunner were lost. The master and 16 crew members were picked up by HMS Flamingo (L 18) (Cdr J.H. Huntley, RN) and landed at Londonderry. 15 crew members were picked up by HMS Fandango (T 107) (T/Lt F.C. Hopkins, RNVR) and landed at Belfast on 29 September. | ||
