Francis Theaker suffered two fractured vertebrae in the sinking of Castle Harbour and spent six weeks in a hospital in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He was then flown to New York where he boarded Vestfold as passenger for his passage home, experienced another sinking and eventually reached the UK aboard the rescue ship Rathlin.
