Personal information

John Urwin was awarded the OBE for gallantry, devotion to duty and outstanding good service whilst serving in the Merchant Navy. He served aboard Seapool after the sinking of Rushpool before joining Empire Dryden on 19 February 1942. Surviving her sinking in April 1942 and Roxby in November 1942 he did not go back to sea until 1946 aboard Fort Brule. His last ship was Kyloe, being discharged on 16 November 1951.
